Alvin Lindsay’s work involves litigating complex commercial cases including business disputes, products liability, securities defense, and class actions. He has extensive trial experience as first-chair litigation counsel in state and federal courts as well as international and domestic arbitration. Representing both plaintiffs and defendants, he has won a number of multimillion dollar trials and has been litigation counsel in some of the most important lawsuits in the state of Florida, including the year 2000 presidential election cases where he represented Florida’s Secretary of State from the trial court level through the U.S. Supreme Court. Additionally, he has appeared as counsel before the U.S. Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations.
Alvin is the editor and author of the Florida section of the Product Liability Desk Reference: A Fifty State Compendium, a treatise published annually by Aspen press that is designed to provide a summary of the product liability laws of the 50 states and the District of Columbia for litigation attorneys, in-house corporate counsel, and insurance professionals. He also authored "Tuning in to HDTV: Can Production Joint Ventures Improve America's High-Tech Picture?", 44 University of Miami Law Review 1159 (1990), as well as numerous articles in publications throughout the country. While in law school, Alvin was editor of the Law Review and a Dean’s Scholar.
Alvin is a frequent speaker on the topics of "Technology in Litigation," "Litigation Skills," "Document Gathering, Production and Management," and "Advanced Civil Discovery" for organizations including the National Business Institute, the University of Miami School of Law, Florida International University, the Institute for Paralegal Education, and others. His DVD "Technology in Litigation" is forthcoming from the National Institute of Trial Advocacy.
Representative Experience
Performed a significant role in the representation of Florida Secretary of State Katherine Harris in the well-known presidential-election cases of the year 2000.
Successfully represented Secretary of State Katherine Harris as primary litigation counsel in an action brought by plaintiffs who sought damages in excess of $20 million, but were awarded nothing.
Successfully tried multimillion dollar bench and jury trials.
Represented a witness before the U.S. Senate Permanent Sub-Committee on Investigations.
Successfully defended an automotive finance company against a multimillion dollar securities fraud class action.
Successfully represented a Venezuelan ammonia and urea manufacturer in a $100 million dispute with an Italian EPC contractor.
