With wide-ranging knowledge, a broad blend of backgrounds, and a wealth of career experience, Hogan & Hartson’s intellectual property (IP) lawyers adroitly handle the full breadth of IP issues faced by clients worldwide. In the United States, Europe, and Asia, Hogan & Hartson has been recognized as having a leading IP practice.

Our IP group is composed of more than 120 lawyers, including more than 40 registered patent attorneys and patent agents. Many hold advanced degrees, including Ph.D.s, and have hands-on experience in industry, business, and government. Our IP lawyers put their skills and experience to work in solving clients’ most difficult IP challenges. We handle patent, trademark, copyright, and trade secret litigation in U.S. courts, European courts, the International Trade Commission, and, with the assistance of local counsel, forums throughout the world. We also provide patent and trademark prosecution and counseling and sophisticated analysis and opinions. Our high standards and integrity have earned us widespread recognition by courts, adversaries, and clients as pragmatic IP litigators and problem solvers. Bolstering our worldwide reach and decades of experience is our ability to draw upon the knowledge of other Hogan & Hartson lawyers in fields such as U.S. Food & Drug Administration, tax, health, competition, and antitrust law. Combined, these strengths uniquely position us to provide creative and cost-effective solutions to our clients.

Our IP practice is truly global; our lawyers are located in 22 offices in 10 countries and on four continents. In the United States, they are located in Baltimore, Boulder, Colorado Springs, Denver, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, Northern Virginia, Philadelphia, and Washington, D.C. Outside the United States, we have IP lawyers in Abu Dhabi, Beijing, Berlin, Caracas, Geneva, Hong Kong, Moscow, Munich, Paris, Shanghai, Tokyo, and Warsaw. Working with local counsel as necessary under applicable bar rules, our IP litigators can and do handle litigation in virtually every state in the United States and in many important countries of the world. Our Washington, D.C., base gives our intellectual property attorneys ready access to the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, the International Trade Commission, and key regulatory institutions. Our international reach and established relationships with IP attorneys and agents in jurisdictions in which we do not practice enable us to help our clients devise and implement worldwide IP strategies.
